Pro Bono in the Czech Republic

On 11th March 2008 Public Interest Lawyers Association in cooperation with LIGA and the CEELI Institute, is holding a roundtable for attorneys and NGO lawyers. The aims of the roundtable are to review the current state of providing pro bono legal services in the Czech Republic; to present successful foreign pro bono experiences, and to discuss their possible applications to the Czech environment; and to discuss possible ways of supporting the pro bono development in the Czech Republic.

The following issues will be discussed: introduction to the concept of pro bono; assessing the situation in the Czech Republic; benefits of pro bono for law firms; the Polish and Hungarian pro bono experience; cooperation of NGOs and law offices in supporting pro bono; and the practical steps to support the development of pro bono in the Czech Republic. Presentations will be given by Vítězslav Dohnal (director of PILA), Michael Haroz (senior partner Goulston&Storrs), Atanas Politov (program director, Public Interest Law Institute Budapest), Veronika Kristková (lawyer, Liga lidských práv).
