Children‘s Rights

Since its inception, Liga has been dedicated to the provision of legal services in the sphere of the protection of children’s rights. Today we are focussed on campaigning for a complete transformation of the entire system of child rights in the Czech Republic.

Presently, Romany children are educated in separate schools and classes to their Czech contemporaries. These schools do not provide the standard of education as schools for Czech children do. Hence many Romany children are not able to progress academically, nor even receive a good, basic education. We at Liga are in no doubt, that it is essential to provide Romany children with quality education, in order to improve their personal lives, as well as improve their prospects in the labour market and their future professional lives. We are convinced that by providing better education to the Romany population, Czech society as a whole would also be enhanced.

Liga also aims to reduce the number of children placed in state care institutions. Although it is universally recognised that it is always better for a child’s development, for them to stay with their biological or surrogate parents, the number of institutionalised children in the Czech Republic remains alarmingly high.

Our legal expert on domestic violence also now focuses on analysing the child-parent relationship within divorced families, and the impact divorce has on children. Moreover, lawyers involved within our health care projects, are also concentrating on developing good practices in providing information to, and hence receiving, the informed consent of child patients.
